This goal was accomplished in Itajaí Handball Cup, that happened in January 21st to 27th. On Wheelchair competitions, two teams from the state of Paraná (Unipar/Atacar/Toledo and Centro de Esportes Adaptados de Francisco Beltrão), and two from Santa Catarina (Afadefi/Balneário Camboriú and Clube Roda Solta/Univali/Itajaí) fought for the first place.
On WCH7 Male, the decision occured by the goal difference. Unipar and
Roda Solta broke even in a game with very high technical and tathical
level. On the goal difference, the team from PAraná had only one goal
more than the other team, which was trying to break the hegemony of
Paraná teams in the competition. For the third place, Balneário Camboriú
won the game over Francisco Beltrão. Beltrão was, actually, a
fundamental piece on the decision of the cathegory, as they made things
difficult for Clube Roda Solta to make a good goal difference, and Roda
Solta ended up in second place.
On WCH4 Female, Clube Roda Solta confirmed their favoritism by winning all the three games against Unipar/Atacar, that, this year, counted with chilean athlete Catalina Jimeno. Despite the defeat, Toledo athletes were satisfied, for they made one set on the first and one set on the third game. The athletes from St. Catarina were also very thrilled, for they were depleted of their main player, Gevelin, who played on WCH7 for Balneário Camboriú.
On WCH4 Male, Unipar/Atacar/Toledo won the three games played, but that was no surprise. What was really amazing was Afadefi/Camboriú, the team that beat Roda Solta and conquered the second place. The team from Francisco Beltrão also deserves a mention, because they lost two of their best athletes, and, yet, showed up a very competitive team.
The team of referees counted with Professor Silmara Fernandes, who was in the first edition of Itajaí Handball Cup in which WCH was a cathegory. Nowadays, she is responsible for the implantation of Wheelchair Handball in Portugal.
